Restaurants and Eateries

318 Café

318 Water St, Excelsior

The 318 Café was founded in 2004 by Tom Peterson and
Matty O’Reilly.

They are cousins, musicians and restaurant industry veterans. In July of 2016, after almost 12 years of ownership, they handed over the reigns to a former employee, Kate Bailey, along with her husband Doug. It’s been an amazing run and the 318 Cafe is in excellent hands moving forward with all of the reasons it was always such a great fit for Excelsior – cool music, friendly environment & service, and excellent food & beverages served all day long.

The 318 Café officially opened its doors on November 16th, 2004.

In its 11+ years of operation, the 318 has cultivated a strong and loyal audience for food, music, coffee, craft beer and wine because of their commitment to quality, friendly service and exceptional value. With just 50 seats, the 318 Café is the premier, intimate live music “listening room” in Minnesota

Set in a 100+ year-old building once used as a lumber mill, a naturally warm environment full of character, wood beams and history awaits your next visit.

Whether it’s for a quick latte, a glass of wine and a cheese plate, a MN craft beer or a show, we would love to see you. There is a fireplace for cold winter days, a little patio for summer sun, and an ample parking lot…the 318 Café crew happily welcomes you!

Al and Alma’s Supper Club & Charter Cruises

5201 Piper Road, Mound

Al and Alma’s Supper Club was founded in 1956 by Al and Alma Quist. During the day, Al was a firefighter and the Mayor of Island Park, at night he cooked the best food on the lake! His idea of creating a dining destination worth making a trip for propelled a lasting history as Lake Minnetonka’s longest operating restaurant. Open for dinner only, today’s modern restaurant embraces recipes that have spanned three generations. The term “Supper Club” embraces our past but requires no membership! Hand cut steaks, slow cooked BBQ ribs, famous camp-style walleye and homemade desserts accompany Modern American fare and delightful nightly specials including fresh ocean fish.   Our main level dining room has intimate seating for couples as well as large table settings. Beautiful lofted ceilings, a cozy lake rock fireplace and large windows adorn the main dining room.  Our upper level “loft” features private dining accommodations for small to medium sized gatherings amidst vaulted ceilings, with a combination of tables and a casual sofa lounge with a 65″ flat screen display for business presentations, family slideshows, or live sporting events.  Join us out on Phelps Island, you’ll be glad you did!

B Grizzly’s Pizza

2407 Hwy 7, Excelsior

My name is Kristen and I am the current owner of B. Grizzly’s Pizza. I was a customer back in 2015 when I first tried B. Grizzly’s Pizza and I fell in love with it. In that moment, I realized how special this pizza was so I bought the company. Here at B. Grizzly’s Pizza we have a crew of great people that are passionate about pizza!

Many of our loyal customers refuse to buy their pizza anywhere else. Our pizza is downright addicting! The formula for our success starts with high quality ingredients from the meat to the crust. This starts with our flour and Gluten Free crusts that we procure from a California bakery. In addition, our sauces and dough are made from scratch in our kitchen. Our recipes and ingredients are sourced from the same suppliers as the original owners. We refuse to deviate from this formula.

From the finest ingredients to a passionate staff, our pizzas are made to order and with care. We’ve been coined “The Best takeout pizza in the western suburbs…hands down!”

We deliver to the Lake Minnetonka communities of Excelsior, Shorewood, Greenwood, Deephaven, Chanhassen, Victoria and Tonka Bay.

Coalition Restaurant

227 Water Street, Excelsior

Coalition Restaurant combines an inspired menu with a casually sophisticated setting in a historic downtown Excelsior main street building. Coalition is the creation of Chef Eli Wollenzien and reflects his passion for cooking with a diverse and inspired menu.

Wollenzien has partnered with general manager and co-owner Deacon Eells and the two have a long, storied history growing up together in small town River Falls, WI, moving and immersing themselves in a variety of Twin Cities restaurants, and now returning to a close knit community for their first solo venture.

The menu takes its inspiration from classic American dishes like beef, lamb, pork and walleye, creatively prepared, vibrantly presented, and influenced by cuisines around the world reflecting the global, sophisticated, expanded palates of today.

The restaurant is located in a historic Excelsior brick building dating from 1886. Creating a sense of the natural evolution of the building was a goal of the designer, Kara Karpenske of Kamarron Design, Inc. (KDI) of Edina. New rustic floors, tall booths, oversized chandeliers, and industrial lighting enhance the look of the exposed original brick. Antiqued mirrored panels set off the white marble design bar top and warm toned leather bar stools create an inviting space to enjoy. A large selection of wine and MN sourced tap beers complement the full bar.

Open for lunch and dinner seven days a week, Coalition will become a neighborhood fixture and a Lake Minnetonka destination for quality dining.

Jake O’Connor’s

200 Water Street, Excelsior

Welcome to Jake O’Connor’s Public House “Every small town in Ireland has a public house,” says Dermot Cowley, a native of County Louth and owner of the Jake O’Connor’s Public House. For centuries, the Irish pub has been a man’s place, a safe harbor for henpecked husbands and soccer hooligans alike. Shielded from the sun’s heat and your wife’s glare, you could nurse a pint alone at the bar or join friends in an alcove for carousing or confession.

That warmth—not the exclusivity—is what Cowley hoped to re-create when he opened Jake O’Connor’s Public House in downtown Excelsior. He sure deserves a doff of the cap for turning a former hardware shop into something comfortable and convivial, replete with a fireplace, buttoned-leather booths, stained-glass dividers, and soft lighting. You will see Vintage ads for Murphy’s Extra Stout and Jameson Irish Whiskey line the walls.

On any given night you will see guys in tweed blazers sit alongside fellows in baseball caps at the ornate bar, the restaurant’s centerpiece, built by Irish woodworkers. Sample one of the 16 beers on tap, including Smithwick’s and, naturally, Guinness, while you enjoy the scenery.

We offer something for everyone, with our creative menu and our casual dining among a wonderful ambiance, live music and a perfectly poured pint. Come see us for a great time and create memories that last a lifetime.

Maynard’s

685 Excelsior Blvd., Excelsior

952-470-0706

Established in 1998, Maynard’s Restaurant began operating on a very historic piece of property in Excelsior, Minnesota on Lake Minnetonka. The same land was occupied by the Excelsior Amusement Park from 1925-1973, and then saw restaurants come and go over the next couple decades.

Maynard’s is locally owned and operated, and prides itself in giving back to the community it serves. Known for the best views of Lake Minnetonka and the best waterfront dining in the state, Maynard’s is a place everyone can enjoy. Our American Casual menu is sure to suit even the most specific appetite, and our bar area is a great place to gather for the big game and enjoy our award winning happy hour.

Maynard’s is a place the locals can call home while still serving as a main tourist attration of the Twin Cities Metro. We pride ourselves in a quality product at a fair price, but believe our consistent service and attention to detail (even among the big summertime crowds) sets us apart from the rest.

Minnetonka Drive-In Restaurant

4658 Shoreline Drive, Spring Park

With the American dream of running their own business, in 1961, Gordon and Jeanette Bennyhoff and 8 children opened the Minnetonka Drive In. It takes an entire family to run a family business and we still operate that way today. Current owner is son Dave Bennyhoff who started at age 9, washing the glass gallon jugs for root beer.

Our secret? It’s not one, admittedly. The best ingredients is a big part.  Turns out we also like people, though.  We want you to feel the family atmosphere when you stop in to eat or have a homemade root beer float on a hot day.

Revisit childhood memories as you order and have your food delivered by a “carhop”.

Own or appreciate classic cars? Stop by on Thursday nights for an awesome show of auto memorabilia.

Located just steps from the Dakota Trail, bike or walk to the Drive In and enjoy your food at our picnic area.
